Washington is just having bad weather this year.
First the rain. Then the snow. Now the winds.

I have my electricity back after two days of outage. My neighbors across the street are not so fortunate. So many trees fell in their alley that all the lines are down and may be for another week. Trees fell everywhere, and there were mudslides as well.

So I'll be doing lots of outdoor clean up for a time, as well as trying to get the last part of the book done.

Have patience. I will get back on a regular schedule soon. I hope!

And I hope the rest of you are having a more placid holiday season than we are!

Best wishes,

Robin

我可以做翻译的苦力(其实我已经是了,我不介意再多做一些,反正这个很短^-^),不过楼主的意思是要人翻译吗?还是解释一下里面的那些游戏?

Apologies for the long silence. I haven't read any of the backlog of messages yet.
I last posted that my power had been restored. But a lot of trees had fallen in my part of the city. There were many in the alley that runs behind my house.
In the course of cutting the trees away, a linesman made a miscalculation that nearly cost him his life, and knocked out my Internet and cable TV access for days. It has been restored today, but the poor fellow is still in the hospital and in serious condition.

So. Patience please while I catch up on all these posts, and on all the backed up email!

And say a prayer for the poor linesman. Those fellows had been working round the clock to get the power going again.

苹果阿姨说:新年快乐
I'm babysitting tonight so I'll wish you all a Happy New Year now. Later on, I'm sure, this keyboard will be busy downloading the photos from the little digital camera one of my granddaughters got for Christmas. Should be fun. and of course, we'll probably all stay up really late, maybe even ten o'clock!
2007 is just around the corner!

Resolutions? Well, I've seen a few on here, so I'll add that my resolution, starting two days ago, was to stop dwelling on things that upset me. I want to rediscover the joy in my life. (Yes, Tedrick, I know, it's in the plastic bottle by the sink!)

Seriously, I want to spend more time focusing on the things that lift me up and give me a glimpse of the bigger, more wonderful aspects of life.

Happy New Year everyone.

So, what games did you play in the schoolyard and on the street?
For me, active variety: Red Rover, Colored Eggs, Tag, Freeze Tag, Shadow Tag, Statue Maker, Two Square or Four Square, Hide and Go Seek, Touch Football, backyard baseball (usually with a whiffle ball), badminton, ping pong, jump rope, croquet, hop scotch.

Small stuff: Marbles, jacks

I hardly ever see kids playing any of those anymore.

In my neighborhood, however, kids shoot baskets, play 'intersection baseball' usually in the workup form, and hide and go seek with either flashlights or walkie talkies. It's great when we get hide and go seek going because the teenagers join in, too. But we don't get it going as often as we used to. And most of our intersection baseball players are now playing for their high school teams.

I found the little metal jacks finally for my grand daughters. So that's one of the gifts that will be in their stockings this Christmas.

I think (but have no hard evidence) that kids play far fewer simple games than they used to, in terms of things like Two Square or Jacks or Red Rover. Games are more organized and often demand a lot more equipment.

Okay, everyone, time to change the world this month. Teach at least one kid an old fasnioned game, of your choice. Board games included.

Report back in January about how many children you have converted. :)
