Tim Hunter, an extraordinary thirteen-year-old boy from London, only recently learned of his true heritage. His mother, a powerful faerie queen fell in love with a human. Timothy is the result. Fearing her fate, she ordered her son killed, but obviously Tim survived. He struggles with his magical powers, finding them both a blessing and a curse. Tim transforms himself into a cat in order to approach his girlfriend, whose father has forbid her from seeing him. Attempting to save her from an unfortunate future, Tim takes on magical tattoos which inhibit his emotions and his magical powers. He quickly learns the reality of his choices and fights to restore his former self. He then chooses to confront his mother, not knowing how she will react to him. Jablonski does a fabulous job creating a lovable character, which keeps the reader wondering what will happen to poor Timothy next.
