2009年是国际天文年，它的主题是“探索我们的宇宙（The Universe, Yours to Discover）”。
国际天文年的目的是——希望通过白天和夜晚的星空帮助人们重新认识自己在宇宙中的位置，从而激发个人的探索发现精神。
换言之，也是希望更多的人喜欢天文呢。
之所以今年会被定为国际天文年，就是为了纪念400年前伽利略首次使用望远镜进行天文观测。
他的观测改变了我们的世界。

我第一次听这首歌的时候，眼睛湿润了，十分的感动。
单就音乐本身来说，我就觉得是首很好听的歌曲。
旋律随意而轻松，演唱者的表演亦如是，仿佛是在讲述一个遥远而美好的故事。
让听众乘上了时空的列车，回到了1609年……
那是一个夏日夜晚，夜空澄澈而无云。
在那一天伽利略做了一件让宇宙为之撼动的事，他透过望远镜看向了天空，
于是他看到了前人从未见过的世界……
他发现了围绕木星旋转的四颗卫星……
（既然木星的卫星能够绕木星旋转，那么为什么地球不能绕太阳旋转呢？）
这个发现支持了哥白尼提出的宇宙没有唯一的旋转中心的猜想。
他还确认了太阳黑子的存在（在很久以前就有人观测到太阳黑子，但往往被认为是水星凌日）以及月球表面的山峰，驳斥了亚里士多德“天体都是完美无缺”的观点。
除此之外，他还发现了金星的相位变化，发现银河是由许许多多的星组成的。
他的观测开拓了新的领域。
说到歌曲的题目“巨人的肩膀”，牛顿有句话——“我只所以看得远是因为我站在巨人的肩膀上。”
虽然更可靠的说法是，“巨人的肩膀”其实是牛顿在讽刺身材矮小的胡克。
（牛顿和胡克曾为了平方反比定律得优先权而争吵，此句话便是出现在牛顿写给胡克的信上。）
但是，牛顿确实是踩在伽利略的肩膀上呢……
