Even though the player is 39th level and I meant for the module to be challenging, I've
been recently convinced to create this document.

CHAPTER 1 - "Wake"

First there's a cutscene...which should be skippable. Decades have passed and you're
now old and retired from adventuring. Your granddaughter's name is Ella, so it's up to
you to imagine who her other grandparent was.

There may not seem like much to do here except for examine the various trophies in your
home (which reference the previous modules) while you wait for 9pm to roll around so you
can go to sleep. Once you are able to rest, this chapter ends with a bizarre cutscene and
chapter 2 begins.

If you head back down to your living room, move away from the stairs, and then head back
up - there will be a knock on the door. At the door will be the coroner, who will ask you to
come to the morgue with him to help identify a body. If you miss this event now, it can still
be triggered in chapters 2 and 3 if you respawn back in your home. Going to the morgue is
useful if you want to trigger the "evil" ending later.

At the Morgue there are several rooms containing slabs holding bodies. The coroner will walk
you to the proper room. The module doesn't require that you identify the corpse of the old
woman, but if you want to try simply walk up to it. One of the doors here is a locked office door.
If you try to break in beware that you may alert him. Inside is a desk and a safe. If you fail a
Hide check, he'll check you approaching his safe. Inside the safe is a pentagram necklace that
will allow you to trigger the 'evil' ending later. Inside the desk is the "List of the Dead".

CHAPTER 2 - "Death Portrayed"

At the start of this chapter you will find yourself in a familiar-looking area and discover that your
helmet, armor, and weapon has changed. In fact, you sort of resemble Death himself. Are you dead?
Is this a dream? Or an alternate reality? Have you actually become Death? You will learn that
you are unable to unequip or drop these three items during this chapter (another way to challenge
epic-level characters). Behind you, you will notice a large portal of some sort but your attempts to
approach it will be futile. Proceed to the alley to the north.

Here you will be shocked and amazed to discover that you are once again standing on the main
street of the city of Narcopolis. As you walk this street you'll notice two things - strange symbols
written on the ground and strange "static-like" creatures that resemble fallen foes from the past.
As you defeat each one they drop a zodiac token (a direct reference to "Narcopolis"). Once you place
each token in its proper matching symbol, the seal on the door to the far north will break. If you die
here, you may respawn back by your bed - the only cost being time. One of these creatures resembles
a court jester and drops a small bottle of gray-colored acid.

Once through the seal, you will enter a prison-like area called "The Stalag". The center is enchanted
with a darkness effect, a teleport-spinner effect, and also serves as a spawn point for Spawnlings.
There are two ghost-prisoners here, freeing them applies a rest effect to you. Past the darkness is
another strange creature. Once defeated, there is a cutscene (I don't recommend trying to skip it) in
which the creature is revealed to be the Scarecrow Man. At this point Morgan makes an appearance
and initiates a conversation with you. At the end of this conversation, he gives you his gold pocket
watch because he believes that you will help him. Once you activate the pocketwatch, chapter 3
begins.

CHAPTER 3 - "Aspects of Fear"

Here those three weird items melt away and you can once again equip your own gear. Behind you,
you will notice another one of those impenetrable portals. If you die here, you may also respawn back in your home. As you move forward down this insanely long corridor, chattering teeth will appear and attack you. Destroying them simply causes them to multiply, unless you use the bottle of acid the jester dropped earlier on them. Otherwise, run! The door at the end of this hall will bring you to the Asylum.

The Asylum is my attempt at a challenging nonlinear puzzle. As soon as you enter, you may be
attacked by a sliding corpse. This corpse drops a dull grey key, which opens any one of the four locked
doors on the first floor. If you pay attention to the descriptions of the doors you will see that one of
them has a broken lock that can only be smashed and another that is connected to the rest (meaning
it only opens when the rest of the doors are). Although only 4 doors require keys, there are 6 spread
about the Asylum. If you go back out the door you used to first enter the Asylum, you will be in a
slightly different hallway. At the end of this hallway you will make a search check - passing it results
in a key. At the other end of the 1st floor hallway is a spiral staircase that will take you either up to
the 2nd floor or down to the boiler room. At several places here you will run into strange spheres of
light called "Phobias". Most of these can not be harmed and will disappear once they touch you, inflicting you with their phobia. Defeating the phobias they inflict you with will be useful in obtaining
items from the patients and eventually more keys. In two of the patients' rooms on the first floor are
cabinets containing Restoration scrolls which may be of use to you.

Boiler Room: this should be easy for you; once you defeat the "fear of spiders" phobia you will be
attacked by 20 spiders at once. After that, pick up what the phobia dropped - some phobias drop
playing cards that unlock three of the 2nd floor doors. Then proceed to the boiler, deal with the trap,
and obtain another dull gray key. Also, near the north wall here, is a spear enchanted to do fire
damage. This could be useful if you make it to the Kitchen.

2nd Floor: the door to the Office is here, shrouded in darkness, and can not be opened yet. The other
three doors can be opened as you acquire playing cards from the patients and phobias. When you
first enter here, you will likely be attacked by a sliding corpse and the phobia at the end of the hall.
Pick up what they drop.

Patient Five: the phobia here will blind you. Once your sight is restored, Marcia will give you her
Queen of Hearts card.

Patient Four: this is Brom's room and there actually isn't much to do here besides talk to him

his book, he'll give you his Dream Journal - which you can use in the Library.

Patient Two: this is Ichobod's room and he's lost his eloquence. Offer him the tongue from the Library

Patient One: if you possess a story stone, you can ask this patient about them. The phobia here causes deafness. Once you've restored your hearing, return to him and shout at him. He will give

Patient Zero: if you're in this room then you're almost done with chapter 3. Simply talk to the patient
and obtain the patient's clothes. With these clothes you are immune to the phobias and you can also
enter the 2nd floor office.

2nd Floor rooms:

Kitchen: the door is opened with the Queen of Hearts card. Inside, at the center of the floor, is a
beating heart of sorts. It is immune to all damage except fire. Once destroyed it will release its key.
Also, on a table here, is a quantity of breadcrumbs that might be useful in the Thought Stream.

Library: here is a book and a giant mouth against one wall. If you have Aerth's Dream Journal, you
can put it in the mouth and it will spit out a tongue. Bring the tongue to Ichobod for a card. It's
likely that you will end up with duplicates of the same playing cards. Search the south wall of the
library for a secret door, which will bring you to the card collector. If you bring him the three cards
he needs for his set, he will give you the dull grey key he found.

Sleep Deprivation Laboratory: here One-eyed Jack sleeps and Gephetto tries in vain to fall asleep. Also, there are two desks - one of them has a weapon that does fire damage that might be useful to you in the kitchen. Getting Jack's card should be easy. To help Gephetto fail asleep, destroy the two
generators here. Once you've done that, he'll toss you his card.

Office: this door will only open if you're wearing the Patient Clothes that Patient Zero gives you.
Once inside there is a large journal on a desk. Read the last entry in this journal to learn exactly how
Morgan plans to have you 'help' him. Then close the journal - Morgan will appear and speak to you.
If you surrender now, you can respawn back in your home. Once you use the pocketwatch, chapter
4 begins.

Here you will explore a few of Doctor Morgan's memories, as he attempts to use those same memories
to destroy you. If you die here, you will trigger the "bad" ending and the game will end. Click on the portal in the Dream Conduit to proceed.

Morgan's Childhood Memory: this memory shows Morgan's early interest in chess. Once you walk to the 2nd door, the present-day Morgan will appear by the first. Talk to him and he'll send you to the chessfield.

Chessfield: many traps litter this area and there are many opponents. Like the game of chess, this

Defeat The Creature to create another thought portal, then click on it to proceed to the next memory...

Lobby: now you're back at the mansion from "Stormy Night"! In the lobby are four easily defeated blood spiders. The doors to the 2nd floor and kitchen can not open. As you head to the bedroom, a cutscene will trigger of Morgan attacking a visitor and slaying his manservant instead. In the bedroom, in a cabinet, is a key to the Greenhouse. Proceed back to the lobby and unlock the Greenhouse door and enter. Here there is a demon trapped. You may either slay it or free it. In either case a thought portal will appear in its place, which will bring you to...

The Church of the Poisoned Mind: here is the secret society that Morgan joined. The members all wear a special white robe called "Heaven's Gift". If you are not wearing this robe and one of them spot you, then you will be instantly sent to the Church Dungeon and your game will end. One such room is in the store room next to the room you start in. Follow the corridor to a door and either smash or pick it open. Inside is a guardian that attacks all intruders, with a large door behind it. Defeating this guardian results in a key - however, the door it guards can also be smashed. There is also another door here that leads to another corridor, which leads to a brief scene with Morgan and a room full of
scrolls. Beyond the guardian's door is the Inner Sanctum. Here is a brief cutscene and then the cultists turns hostile towards you. Just like with the chessfield, it isn't necessary to defeat them all. If you just defeat Morgan, a thought portal will appear and bring you to...

Carnival: this area is fairly straightforward. Random lightning strikes hit you here. If you approach Morgan, there's a cutscene. Go to the ticketbooth and the Queen of Black Hearts appears. Defeat her to create another thought portal.

Back in the Dream Conduit, your next destination will be the Thought Stream. Here, the ground is pitch-black but there are a number of ways to combat this. If you have the breadcrumbs from the kitchen you could use them to leave a trail of mapnotes. It may also be possible to see the road if you turn all of your brightness settings all the way up (I never tried that one). In a handful of places, lightning ("thoughts") move across the terrain to give you an idea of where you can go. Most importantly, as you move through here a strange jester will appear from time to time and spout nonsense. He only appears where there is a change in direction, which is a hint for you to move in the direction he is standing. Also scattered about are a few portals. Use them to advance, the last one will bring you to the Core.

Core: the core of Morgan's being is the finale of the module. Approach him on the platform and there will be a quick cutscene before battle ensues. If he kills you here, there will be a 'fourth' ending in which his plan succeeds. Note that he is standing on a pentagram. If you want to do the 'evil' ending and you have the book from the evil altar in the Temple of Death and the pentagram necklace from the Morgue, then enter the pentagram and activate the necklace. There will be a cutscene. While Morgan stands in the pentagram, he is immortal - benefitting from infinite respawns. Lure him away from there to make him lose his immortality. You may have to go as far away from him as possible, to one of the energy barriers. Once you defeat him, you'll experience the "good" ending.
