这其实是一首在英国家喻户晓的基督教圣歌，诗人William Blake(1757-1827)的诗作在19世纪晚期由Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry谱曲，成了一首合唱圣咏曲。当年ELP尝试将其改为他们的摇滚版本，但这却是一项"不成功便成仁"的尝试，相当容易招致宗教人士与卫道人士的抨击。然而，他们成功了，此曲不但叫好叫座，更成为此团的必听曲之一。歌词当然不用说，曲风肃穆庄严，因此也有人称之为前卫摇滚中的国歌。Lake的美声男中音，Emerson的电风琴伴奏，Palmer恰到好处的鼓击，共同促成了这个无瑕的演译版本。
