在看《地狱男爵2：黄金军团》的时候，昏暗的地下，两个为世界所不容的“生物”，思念着心中所爱，聆听着这首歌。怀旧的音乐伴随着怀旧的画面静静流淌开来，仿佛从屏幕里的角色心中荡漾到了屏幕外的我身边……那一瞬间被这首歌曲所感动。由于不知道歌名，只好一遍遍记下歌词，按图索骥，这才找到……于是一整晚不停地放着……Barry Manilow 1946年生于纽约布鲁克林，自幼即娴熟钢琴与手风琴。半工半读完成茱莉亚音乐学院的学业后，他成为CBS电视台“Callback”节目的音乐总监，并活跃于广告配乐界。1971年他成为贝蒂米勒音乐生涯初期的专属钢琴手、编曲者与音乐总监。1973年他发表了首张个人同名专辑，但销售成绩差强人意。1974年他加盟Arista唱片，在总裁克里夫戴维斯的运筹维幄下，隔年以一曲献给初恋女友的“Mandy”拿下排行冠军，随后推出的百老汇风味单曲“It's A Miracle”与改编自萧邦作品的抒情曲“Could It Be Magic”也相继进占排行前二十名，而后者在接招合唱团的翻唱之下还曾登上英国榜第三名。1976年至1980年，他以冠军曲“I Write The Songs”、“Looks Like We Made It”和“This One's For You”、“Weekend In New England”、“Can't Smile Without You”、“Copacabana”、“Somewhere in the Night”、“Ships”、“I Made It Through the Rain”等单曲陆续攻陷排行前十名，1977年他甚至还在葛莱美奖与全美音乐奖之外，赢得了首座电视艾美奖，足见他横跨各个领域的杰出才华。
去年，他结束了与Arista唱片多年来的合作关系，并加盟爵士厂牌Concord以便专注于灌唱自己热爱的爵士作品，而收录了19首排行抒情佳作的《Ultimate Manilow》，正是一张里程碑式的纪念精选辑。02六月份，Manilow即将与Sting、Michael Jackson等歌手共同列名今年的“音乐创作名人堂”，然而相较于他的创作才华，他柔美的歌声与炉火纯青的唱腔却更为乐迷们所肯定，因为聆听Barry Manilow的音乐就如同咀嚼美好的回忆，越是经过时间的沈淀，越能感受到他音乐中永恒的纯真与浪漫。
